India Trip - Sighseeing : Day 1

4th Feb
We were in Delhi to attend a wedding. The wedding was over on the 3rd and our travelling adventures began. We were a group of 5 adults and 2 children (age 4 and 21 months).
We packed up from the army guest house and moved in hotel Clark international. The rooms were nice. Not a 5 star but 3-4*. It was almost 11.30pm and we dropped our bags at the hotel and left. First we went to India gate.

After photos we visited Rashtrapati Bhavan. The mogul gardens which are supposed to be nice was closed.

4th being a monday lot of monuments were closed. Went to Kutubminar - was nice.

Then tried visiting Jama Masjid - but it was closed for prayers. It was getting dark. Red Fort was closed and we saw it from outside. Then we went to see 'Amar Jyot' which is the Mahatma Gandhi memorial. We got back to the Hotel. Month of February is cold and went in search for brandy and found a flourishing street market. Surprisingly the liquor store had run out of brandy. So we got a half bottle of Vat 69 scotch whiskey. We got back to the hotel and everybody was tired. Ordered chinese food from room service and were impressed with the pricing and service at the hotel.
The room had a nice bowl of fruits. We asked housekeeping to cut up an apple - and they did a nice job of peeling and cutting the apple.
After living in the US for a long time, I am not used to getting service. I appreciate simple acts like getting a fruit cleaned and cut. In US, I don't even think of asking the Hotels housekeeping service for such favors. Wonder if they will charge me in US.. if yes.. wonder how much..
